SHC Presents events are an opportunity to showcase the writing that goes on in the Heaney Centre, and provide students with a (strictly time limited!) space to experiment and reach new audiences. Each night features an expert or enthusiast from outside the literary world. This is an evening co-hosted by and as part of the Critical Domesticities Symposium at QUB.
Critical Domesticities Symposium: Retro & Hetero? The Housewife of the Year (1968-1995) is an afternoon of presentations and discussion reflecting on the Housewife of the Year and taking a critical and creative look at the evolving role of women in the domestic sphere on the island of Ireland. You can register to attend the symposium here.
This event is a collaboration between the School of Arts, English and Languages, the School of Social Sciences, Education and Social Work and the Seamus Heaney Centre at QUB. The symposium is the second in a series of Critical Domesticities events led by Shonagh Hill and Trish McTighe at QUB School of Arts, English and Languages. This year they are joined by gerontologist Gemma Carney (Ark Ageing Programme, QUB School of Social Sciences, Education and Social Work).
SHC students are invited to join the reading line up for SHC Presents... HOME, with work of their own, or responding to the theme of the evening - please send an expression of interest to shc@qub.ac.uk.
