Poems after Joseph Beuys
Spring 2025

This autumn, we will visit a new exhibition at the Ulster Museum exploring the legacy of the German artist Joseph Beuys. 

New poetry, and prose, written in response to the exhibition's holdings will be published in a new pamphlet in Spring 2025. 


Poems after Colin Middleton and John Lavery
Spring 2024

Inspired by two different exhibitions at the Ulster Museum: Among This Peace and Noise and Lavery on Location. 

Writers featured in the pamphlet are: Joshua Beatty, Jenny Browne, Maggie Doyle, Olivia Heggarty, Noel Howley, Maeve McKenna, Zara Meadows, Alanna Offield, Matthew Rice, and Babita Sharma.

This pamphlet features a combination of poetry and prose for the first time.

Writers featured in the pamphlet are: Freya Elliott, Rebecca Emmet-Booth, Viviana Fiorentino, Sam Furlong Tighe, Colette Henry, Emma Kane, Hazel Naughton, Hilary McDaniel, Maeve McKenna, John Moriarty, Matthew Rice, Babita Sharma, Alexandra Ward and Benjamin Webb.

With writing by Morgan Leathem, Matthew McGlinchey, Eoghan Totten, Dara McWade, Eoin Kelly, Joanne McCarthy, Suzi Bloom, Harry Bradley, Alanna Offield, Rose Winter, Emma Gibb, and Charlie McIlwain.


A Unique Silence: Rembrandt at the Ulster Museum
Spring 2021

An exhibition of etchings explored entirely virtually by students during lockdown. We were joined by students from Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas, and former Fulbright scholar Professor Jenny Browne. 

Featuring poems by Elizabeth McIntosh, Matthew Rice, Leah Taylor, Cait Phenix, Jessie Metcalf, Liam Caldwell, Sorcha Ní Cheallaigh, and Jamie Field, and from Texas, Ciara Keogh, Emily Youngerman, Logan Muzyka, Shelby Sperling, Maddie West, Mackenzie Cook, Ruby Walker, and Hannah Hsu. 


Changing Views: the Artist as Traveller
Spring 2020

Focusing on a single exhibition, the pamphlet features poems by Bebe Ashley, Jess McKinney, Caitlin Phenix, John Reid, Noah Swinney, Grace Tower, and Milena Williamson. Discussion was led by Padraig Regan, and curator of art Anna Liesching, with special contribiutions by visiting Fulbright scholar Jenny Browne and SHC Fellow Vahni Capildeo.


Privilege of Distance: Collection Highlights
Summer 2019

With poems in response to a range of works from across the collection, the pamphlet features poems by Bebe Ashley, J. Taylor Bell, Bart Breathnach, Supriya Dhaliwal, Erin Gannon, Aine McAllister, Mícheál McCann, Marcella Prince, Andrew Rahal, and Milena Williamson. 


That All I'd Seen Would Be Left Untranslated
Autumn 2018

Featuring poems by Padraig Regan, Emma Must, Stephen Sexton, and Caitlin Newby. 

The first Ekphrasis Pamphlet published in collaboration with the Ulster Museum, was produced with the support of the Courtauld Institute of Art as part of their RES/Fest Belfast programme. RES/Fest Belfast coincided with the loan of the Courtauld's Female Nude, by Amedeo Modigliani to the Ulster Museum in October 2018.
